Stephanie Gai, Associate English Faculty, Eureka Campus

What do you love most about teaching at CR?
I love the students, and I love working with them, watching them develop as readers and writers. I love the glimmer of excitement in their eyes when they discover new meanings in a text or find their voice in the written word.

What do you love most about your discipline?
I love choosing texts and writing prompts that will bring new knowledge and understanding to students and to the ways they read, write, and think about the world and their experiences in the world. Sharing the joy of practicing reading and writing is an honor that energizes me and enriches my life.

Professor Stephanie Gai has taught English composition at College of the Redwoods since 2009. She received her BA in English Literature from CSU Fullerton and her MA in Teaching Writing from Humboldt State University. Her Master?s thesis investigated the connection between computer-mediated discourses and first-year students? ability to compose academic texts. Today, Professor Gai is interested in the many complex social, economic, and labor issues affecting rural students and their families. Her current activities include researching and developing classroom exercises and projects for her students.
