Dave joined the staff at College of the Redwoods in 1974.  He has coached Swimming, Women’s Basketball, and Football over the course of those years.  He coached the women’s basketball team to a second place and a third place in the State Championships in 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons.  He was State Coach of the Year in 1981.  Dave began coaching football for CR during the 1975 football season and has continued until the present time.  Dave played football at Bakersfield  JC and then at Humboldt State University.  Dave has coached linebackers, special teams, wide receivers, defensive backs, quarterbacks, defensive coordinator, and offensive coordinator.  In 1999 he took over as head football coach.  The team has won three conference championships and he has been selected conference coach of the year twice and Region I State Coach of the Year in 2000.  Dave has three children, (Krista, Brandon, and Bret) and four grandchildren (Ethan 6, Piper 3, Madeline 3, and Evan 1).

Coach Mike Cox
Defensive Coordinator

Mike Cox was the head track and offensive line coach at Merced College prior to coming to College of the Redwoods in 1991. He was the offensive line coach at Taft JC when they won the National Title. While at College of the Redwoods he was also voted to the All-Conference team twice as well as to the All-American team. He signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent following his career at Humboldt State.  Mike and his wife, Janna, live in McKinleyville with their daughter, Ashlynn, and their son, Connor.

Coach Dave Newton
Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach

Dave is in his third season as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at College of the Redwoods.  Dave played quarterback at Sequoia High School and Menlo College.  He played QB/TE at Humboldt State from 1981-1982.  In 1984-1986 Dave was an assistant coach at Humboldt State and was head coach at Arcata High School from 1993-1995.  Dave currently works at Arcata High School as an Instructional Aide.  He and his wife Maria have been married since 1987 and has two daughters; Alyssa and Kelsey, both attend Arcata High.

Landry

Jeff Landry
Defensive Line Coach

Jeff Landry is in his first season at College of the Redwoods as Defensive Line coach. Jeff served as JV offensive coordinator at South Fork High in 2006. While at South Fork, he also was an assistant track coach, winning “Little 4” titles in 2006 & 2007. He also worked as a defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the New Orleans Public School System from 1993-1998. Jeff also works as a substitute teacher for Humboldt County, and lives with his wife Dana in Eureka.

Yanceff

Nathaniel Turner
Defensive Backs

A first year defensive back coach and special teams coordinator at Redwoods. Nate was born in San Antonio, Texas and lives in Oceanside, CA.
Graduated from Rancho Buena Vista High in Vista, CA where he was an All-Conference selection at outside linebacker. Received an AA degree from Palomar College where he started as strong safety. Currently attends Humboldt State University where he was a starting defensive back for 2 years and expects to receive a BA in Business Management spring 2009.

Romero

Coach Tino Romero
Linebackers Coach

Tino started his football career at Eureka High School and joined the Corsairs for the 1988-89 seasons. Tino was a two time all Golden Valley first team Defensive Lineman and a two time unanimous All State first team selection. Tino was also selected as the Golden Valley Conference Defensive player of the year. Coach Romero accepted a full scholarship to Washington State University and started for the Cougars  in 1990. Tino finished his career in 1993 at Southern Oregon University. Tino currently works for the college as the Equipment Manager and Football Recruiting Coordinator \ Linebacker Coach.

Elam

John Elam
Running Backs Coach

John returns for his 4th season as College of the Redwoods Running Back Coach. John is a former Eureka High School standout and All-County selection.  Coach Elam went on to play for the College of the Redwoods in 1986-87. John’s passion and work ethic has had a positive impact on the program. His determination has carried over to his players, with a strong desire to score on every touch. Coach Banducci commented that “John’s commitment and intensity for the game is contagious”. When Coach Elam is not on the Football field he is hard at work with his Landscaping business. When it comes to the finer things of life, Coach Elam enjoys a good game of poker or a nice day of fishing.

Yancheff

Mike Yancheff
Receivers Coach

Coach Yancheff joins the College of the Redwoods staff as wide receivers coach.  Mike is a graduate of Rutgers University where he was quarterback, punter and team co-captain for the Scarlet Knights.  He played professional football with the Norfolk Neptunes of the Atlantic Coast Football League; the Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers of the National Football League; and the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League. Mike’s coaching experience consists of a year at Rutgers University, a year as a player-coach with the Philadelphia Bell and seven years at Saint Bernard’s High School where he coached quarterbacks, receivers and punters and also served as head coach for two years. Mike and his wife, Kitty, live in Eureka.  They have two adult children, a daughter, Lisa and a son, Nick.

Duke

Duane “Duke” Manyweather
Offensive Line

Played at Humboldt State University from 2003- 2007. Was a part of the offensive line that only gave up 7 sacks and averaged 35 points in 2006 when HSU went 9-1. Was an NSCA All-American nominee. Signed and played for the Arkansas Twisters of the AFL in 2008. Manyweather earned his BA in History from HSU. He is currently working towards his Masters in Exercise Science from Humboldt State. Manyweather was a 3 year Varsity Letterman for Pacific Palisades High School, where he was All-Conference selection as a Junior and Senior. Carson, California is his hometown

Colby

Colby Higginbotham
Athletic Trainer

Colby has served as Head Athletic Trainer at College of the Redwoods since 2004.  He has previously served as an Athletic Trainer for Fresno Unified School District and as the Head Athletic Trainer at Reedley College.  Colby is originally from central California and now resides in Fortuna.

Amy'

Amy Landing
Assistant Trainer

Amy begins her first year as Assistant Athletic Trainer at College of the Redwoods.  Amy graduated from Humboldt State in 2008 with a degree in Kinesiology.  Amy also has a degree from Southern Oregon University in Health & Physical Education and Fitness Promotion.  An alumni of College of the Redwoods, Amy played softball for the Corsairs in 2001 & 2002.
