This class is designed to prepare the student to start and
superimpose intravenous
fluids. The content will include
types of fluids and devices rationales for therapies,
safety factors, complications, monitoring and preparation of site, patient and
equipment.
It will also include supervised practice of the technique of venipuncture
on
mannequins and fellow classmates. Students will successfully
start 3 IVs on
fellow classmates. The course fulfills the requirements of (and is approved by)
the California State Board of Nursing for IV Certification for LVNs.

This North Coast EMS-approved
course meets state requirements for
EMT-I
refresher training, including Skills competency Verification. It also meets
National
Registry of EMTs (NREMT) requirements for EMT-Basic Refresher
training.
Course
includes didactic instruction and skills laboratory in basic
life
support knowledge
and skills. Topics include personal safety,
mediocolegal issues,
patient assessment, airway management, use
of
the AED (automated
external defibrillator), and management of medical
and traumatic
emergencies. Participants who successfully complete this
course will be
eligible to apply for re-certification as n California EMT-I.
(Note: This
course does NOT include CPR re-certification. Additional
requirements are needed for NREMT re-registration.)
Prerequisite: Current EMT-I certification, or previous EMT-I certification
expired for no more
than six months.
Continued state EMT certification may still be possible if EMT-I certification
is expired for more than six months; please contact
instructor

025007 AMERICAN RED CROSS CPR
FOR PROFESSIONAL RESCUERS

This course meets American Red Cross (ARC) requirements
for CPR
for the Professional Rescuer recertification training. Course includes
hands-on manikin practice of adult, infant,
and child CPR and foreign body
airway obstruction skills, as well as use
of an AED (automated external
defibrillator) and bag-mask device. Participants who successfully complete
the written and skills examinations will be issued an ARC CPR for
the
Professional Rescuer certification card,
valid for two years. This course is
the equivalent of American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare
Professionals CPR. Registration priority will be given to those also enrolled in the
EMT-I Refresher class.
Prerequisite: Current professional rescuer/healthcare provider level CPR
certification, or such CPR certification expired for no more than three months.
